McGregor Home serves close to 700 vulnerable seniors, but the foundation touches the lives of tens of thousands more through grantmaking.  The McGregor Foundation is at the forefront of this issue, eager to help meet the demand by working closely with schools and recruiting individuals into health care careers. Rob also sees overlap with the Fund in areas other than workforce, including work to improve access to jobs and increase neighborhood wealth. The McGregor Foundation has three grantmaking priorities: • Home and community-based care, particularly programs such as affordable housing with services. • Workforce development, especially related to providing ongoing educational and training opportunities for workers engaged in direct contact with, or providing services for, seniors in home and community-based settings. • Total quality of life programming for seniors in all settings. McGregor's Social Work Training Collaborative

McGregor has developed a Social Work Training collaborative to enhance the skills of social service professionals entering the field of aging, to ensure competency, diversity and commitment to serving seniors in need.  Individuals accepted into the Training Collaborative may be currently enrolled in an accredited academic program, undergoing career change, or be in transition, requiring retraining to enhance their professional skills. Junior Volunteer of the Year Returns to McGregor!

The 2015 Volunteer of the Year, Shannon Malone, returned to McGregor to visit Residents & Staff.  Shannon who attends the University of Cincinnati, will be entering her 3rd year of school, working toward her degree in Interior Design and Entrepreneurship. Shannon volunteered weekly at McGregor while a high school student at Beaumont School.  "Volunteers build lifelong relationships with those that they help", said Judy Simon, Director of Volunteer Services. Ever Wonder? What is Earth Day?

This observance started with an interest in gathering national support for environmental issues.  In 1970, San Francisco activitst John McConnell and Senator Gaylord Nelson separately asked Americans to join in a grassroots demonstation.  McConnell chose the spring equinox (March 21, 1970) and Nelson chose April 22.  Millions participated and today, Earth Day continues to be widely recongized and celebrated- the most common practice of which is to plant new trees for Earth Day.
