In a broad sense, the role of the physical therapist is to accelerate your recovery by helping your body’s natural healing mechanism do its job. To accomplish this, your physical therapist will help you improve your muscle strength, coordination, manage pain and learn to compensate for any physical limitations caused by your illness or injury.
Your occupational therapist will help you adapt to, and overcome, any physical limitations that may prevent you from living independently. We will help you relearn the skills you need in your daily life, such as dressing, grooming, bathing, eating and homemaking.
The role of the speech therapist is to work with you to help restore losses in your ability to communicate, remember and understand. In addition, your speech therapist can treat your swallowing and chewing problems, assist you in coping with your communications if you are hearing impaired, and treat the difficulties you may have in thinking, planning and remembering.
