How Kanesha Boyd Built Her Career in Senior Care

Kanesha BoydWhen you walk the halls and common spaces of McGregor at Overlook, you will likely see Kanesha Boyd engaging with residents and other employees. As Administrator at McGregor, Kanesha brings her strong business development background and non-profit organizational experience to her work every day. She is an active part of bettering our senior care community, providing leadership to her colleagues, and making a difference in the lives of residents. While Kanesha is a natural fit for a non-profit senior care organization, her path to this career was not straightforward.

“I remember being the little girl on the street who was friends with all the seniors. I would ride my bike and talk to all of them,” Kanesha said. This compassion toward seniors was a thread that would continue to weave its way through her undergraduate studies and work as both a dietary aide and receptionist for a long-term care facility.

After spending years in the community social work field, Kanesha realized that one of her career mentors, Yuvette Bozman, was the Executive Director at McGregor. She reached out to Yuvette to discuss her goal of completing an Administrator in Training (AIT) program and whether there was an opportunity to do so at McGregor—and there was. Kanesha completed her AIT training at McGregor and was offered a position in 2016, allowing her to pursue her career in a familiar environment rather than begin a lengthy search for employment elsewhere.
