The Center for Community Solutions

With The McGregor Foundation’s support, The Center for Community Solutions continues to provide timely research around the protection of the social services safety net, and programs addressing issues facing older adults and their caregivers.
Since being founded in 1913, their publication of various resources keeps the community informed about important current issues and events they may face. Recently, SNAP advocacy has been a top priority as reports stress the potential consequences of proposed federal-state cost sharing of SNAP. Reports stress the fact that most SNAP recipients (besides children) are individuals with disabilities, elderly adults, and those who care for them.
Additionally, Federal Congressional District Fact Sheets highlight indicators relevant to older adults such as households earning income from social security and retirement, households with an older adult receiving SNAP benefits, residents with Medicare coverage, and the percentage of those 65 and older as well as retired residents living in poverty. These fact sheets are invaluable resources for organizations, governments, and foundations to use in their advocacy efforts.
Finally, the Center for Community Solutions actively engages with the community about important issues affecting seniors. Members of the Policy team published an article detailing the critical work of the Ohio Department of Aging and the impact of their programs, especially those regarding Medicaid. Older adults are the fastest growing demographic in Cuyahoga County, and as the needs of this population expand, the Center for Community Solutions remains steadfast in their commitment to improving the lives of seniors and their caregivers through policy, research, and data analysis.
