Choosing the Right Doctor for Senior Care

Doctors Do So Much for Us.

Here Are Some Tips for Choosing a Good Doctor.

Anyone who is helping take care of a senior knows the importance of a great doctor. There are occasions when changes in insurance or even changes in scenery can necessitate the need to find a new provider, and that can be daunting. Where do you begin a search for such an important piece of senior care? McGregor has some tips for seniors who are looking for a new doctor:

Ask for Recommendations

One of the best ways to find out about a new doctor is to ask others who have been to that doctor what their experience was like. You can also find recommendations online if you don’t know anyone who has been to that practice before. Word of mouth is a great way to learn more about a doctor’s reputation.

Make Sure They Are in Your Network

Not all practices accept all plans. Call ahead to the doctor’s office and talk about your insurance. They will be able to tell you if they accept your insurance plan or not. It is important to know the answer before going in and getting treatment.

Check Their Specialty

There are doctors who are better with kids and young adults than doctors who aren’t necessarily listed as pediatricians. By the same token, there are therapists who are better with sports injuries than senior injuries. Find out what that doctor is trained in and most comfortable with prior to your visit.

Think About Logistics

Where is the office? What are the hours that they are open and do they coincide with your routine? Think about what a visit to this office would feel like and make sure that it makes sense with your transportation and scheduling needs.

Make Sure They Are a Cultural Fit

Does this doctor share or respect your religious beliefs? Do they make you feel comfortable? Do they communicate with you in a way that you can understand easily? These are very important considerations that you need to address prior to entering into a treatment plan.

These are just a few considerations for you to think about when choosing a doctor for yourself or a loved one. Need help? That’s what we do.
