Learn How to Become a Planting Partner at McGregor
A Valuable Way to Support Older Adults in Our Community
Every summer, we invite community members to participate in a service program called Planting Partners. While we could not do so for the past two years due to the pandemic, we look forward to welcoming many groups from organizations and businesses across the Cleveland area to our campus throughout the next few weeks. These individuals will help us plant about 250 large containers. Each planter is designated with the name of a current resident at McGregor.
McGregor provides the containers, soil, plants, flowers, and herbs—all of the necessary supplies. Your group simply works alongside our residents to help fill and arrange the planters. We do this over a couple of days, with different shifts available to best meet the needs of your group.
Why is this such a valuable program?
- It is meaningful for our residents. The task of filling a planter may seem simple, but it makes a difference for our residents. We find that when their name is on a planter, our residents have an excuse to venture outside and get out of the building during the warm summer months. They can check on their planter and water it. They can bring family and friends outside to see their work. They have something tangible that they can be proud of, enjoy, and share with others.
- It is meaningful for our Planting Partners. This is a great opportunity to come together and join us in doing some good work on behalf of the older adults in our community. You will get a sense of pride in helping to beautify the campus and provide a source of joy for our residents. You can also learn more about aging services and the work that organizations like McGregor are doing on behalf of seniors right here in Cleveland.
