Tips for Celebrating  With Loved Ones in a Senior Living Community

Start Planning Now for a Special Father’s Day

It’s no coincidence that the upcoming Men’s Health Month ends on June 19, 2022: Father’s Day. What a great opportunity to tell the special men in our lives how much we want them to prioritize their health and well-being! As Father’s Day approaches, many families are making plans to celebrate with loved ones who are in a senior living community. If that’s the case for your family, we have some tips on how to enjoy the day with your loved one. Remember: Sometimes it is simply the time spent together that makes the day extra special.

Take an outing. If your loved one is physically able to do so, take him on a favorite excursion: golfing, fishing, or out to enjoy a meal at a local restaurant. It is fine to choose a different day for your celebration! Consider whether there are any recent exhibits at the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Western Reserve Historical Society, or other local historical sites that he might be interested in visiting. Plan to visit a local fair, festival, or car show. Try your best to cater to his interests while also making sure he will be safe and comfortable at your destination.

Spend the day together at home. There are many ways to enjoy time together! Play cards or a board game, enjoy a favorite sports game or television show, rent a new movie, or ask him to pick his favorite older film to share with you. Consider bringing family and friends together for a shared meal, or just order in takeout and keep it simple!

Give a thoughtful gift. If your loved one is an avid reader, consider gifting him audiobooks or a subscription to a service like Audible. For the music lover, introduce him to Spotify or preload an MP3 player with preferred music. For the history enthusiast, seek out popular books about specific time periods. Again, think about his unique interests and hobbies and how you can support them.

How will you be celebrating your loved ones this Father’s Day? If we can provide any further suggestions or help, please do not hesitate to reach out.
