Creativity and innovation are incredibly important in all aspects of human development. It allows us to go places we never imagined, accomplish what we thought to be impossible, and find community through expression.
For this reason, the United Nations established World Creativity and Innovation Day in 2018 to raise awareness about the importance of creativity and innovation in the pursuit of progress. According to the Cambridge Dictionary, creativity is “the ability to produce or use original and unusual ideas,” while innovation is “the creation and use of new ideas or methods.”
Although creativity and innovation are often thought of within the context of the arts or science, these ideas are not limited to one discipline. Whether it be writing a story, crafting public policy, designing new technology, painting a work of art, or developing a recipe from scratch, all creativity and innovation is useful. Your brain is a muscle, and by using it to think outside the box you are not only contributing to the community, but also to your own health.
So, to celebrate World Creativity and Innovation Day set aside a moment solely for your imagination and see where it takes you.
