Don’t Let Summer Dry You Out: Tips for Better Hydration

Refresh Your Health: The Power of Hydration in Summer

When it comes to health, one of the easiest and most effective things to do is drinking water. So simple, yet often forgotten. Despite its many benefits, hydration is often forgotten in the craziness of each day.

As summer approaches, the importance of water intakes increases dramatically. As summer activities increase, so does the body’s need for water. Soaking in the sun, while also having many benefits, dehydrates the body meaning more water needs to be brought back into the body. Hydration is key for the function of our bodies, while also aiding in concentration and energy levels. Water is essential for regulating body temperature, digestion, removing waste, transporting nutrients, and so much more.

As recommended by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the average adult should have at least eight cups of water daily. While this can be challenging at first, there are many tips and tricks to make it more attainable. Carrying a water bottle while walking or running errands, drinking a glass of water with each snack and meal, and substituting soda or alcohol out for water.

At McGregor we encourage all residents and staff to make hydration a priority. Increasing water intake will do wonders for energy, skin, and a greater sense of well-being.

This summer, challenge yourself to reach the daily hydration goal!
