Cleveland Clinic has launched the nation’s first long-term prescription medication drone delivery program by a U.S. health system, bringing the future of healthcare directly to Northeast Ohio.
The program recently completed its first successful deliveries to patients living within five miles of Cleveland Clinic’s Beachwood Administrative Campus. Through a partnership with Zipline, eligible patients can now receive certain prescription medications delivered safely and quickly by autonomous electric drones—at no additional cost.
The technology is designed with convenience and safety in mind. The drones never land in neighborhoods. Instead, they lower a secure package to the ground using a tether before returning to their charging station. Patients can even track their medication through Cleveland Clinic’s MyChart portal, making the process simple and reassuring.
This groundbreaking initiative reflects Cleveland’s reputation as a city where innovation meets compassionate care. Cleveland Clinic plans to expand the program in the future to include additional medications, medical supplies, lab samples, and even medically tailored meals, helping more patients receive essential healthcare services without leaving home.
