Beverly Demby has a quiet kindness that reflects her generous spirit. At McGregor, she has built a life filled with friendships, laughter, activities – and plenty of reasons to smile.
Beverly has lived at McGregor for over four years. Her journey to McGregor began while she was working at the election polls in 2020. She met a woman who told her she knows someone who works at McGregor and could make the connection for her to apply to move into a unit. Beverly decided to give it a try, and as she says, “It was history after that.”
Since moving to McGregor, Beverly has surrounded herself with friends and acquaintances she describes as friendly, helpful and caring. Residents and staff greet her, talk with her and offer advice. Friends Marvina and Flora are among those who have gotten to know Beverly well. Marvina once told her that she is “a very, very nice person” who goes out of her way to help others.
That generosity is simply part of who Beverly is. She loves helping people and believes in passing kindness forward. Whether it is giving someone a small gift, sharing something practical or simply doing something thoughtful, Beverly finds joy in giving.
And she knows how to have a good time, too. Beverly enjoys bingo, playing cards, going out to eat and spending time talking with people she hasn’t seen in a while. McGregor gives her plenty of opportunities to stay active, social and connected.
Beverly also has a remarkable family to celebrate. She is the proud mother of three children, grandmother of 13 and great-grandmother of five. Her family is spread across the country, including children in Virginia, Atlanta and Cleveland.
One of the highlights of Beverly’s year came when she traveled to New York with family to see her grandson, Jackson Edward Davis, perform on Broadway in August Wilson’s Joe Turner’s Come and Gone. Seeing him on stage was deeply emotional for Beverly – watching his performance twice in May and once in July 2026. “The third time I saw my grandson perform, it was even better than the first two times. I can’t tell you how proud I am of him.”
Although only 12 years old, Beverly’s grandson has pursued acting and studied at acting school for a number of years, and Beverly has enjoyed following his career, including his recent television work on Fatal Attraction. Watching him succeed on Broadway was a special family moment she will always remember.
Beverly spent 22 years working for the RTA, driving a big bus on the HealthLine, before retiring in 2010. Today, she is enjoying a different kind of journey—one filled with friends, activities, family and community.
Beverly is part of a McGregor community filled with friends who have rich histories, remarkable life experiences and countless stories to share.
“It’s a nice place to live,” Beverly says of McGregor, adding that the community “is kept up really well.” For Beverly, life at McGregor is about more than having a place to live. It is about people, connection, kindness and making the most of every day.
And if you ask Beverly, there is always time for bingo, a good conversation – and another reason to be proud of her grandson.
