McGregor’s mission is the commitment to support older adults

“There is no doubt that creative endeavors enhance the quality of life. Seniors live in the best of times, given their financial and political clout. Their needs and concerns are being heard because Boomers want to live longer but want to have more meaningful years. Cleveland, voted an Age-friendly City by WHO [World Health Organization], is one of the best places in the Country to enjoy the experience of aging, shared Lee Ann O’Brien, Director of External Relations.

“Expanding the scope of programming in residential communities into ‘Creative Aging” is the practice of engaging older adults in participatory, professionally run programs with a focus on social engagement and skills mastery by providing opportunity for meaningful, creative expression through visual, literary and arts workshops.”

“Central to McGregor’s mission is the commitment to support programs that allow older adults to age in place, wherever they call “home”. “Our number one priority is to build out the capacity of services that enables affordable senior housing”, stated Rob Hilton, President & CEO.

Rob explained further: “In serving low-income seniors, there is a desperate need for workers, primarily health care workers, across the continuum of the profession, from paraprofessionals, nursing assistants, resident services coordinators all the way to geriatric physicians and those with a Master’s in Social Work.” This has inspired The McGregor Foundation to support their latest initiative, a Social Work Training Collaborative which is partnering with many High School, Colleges and Universities regionally.

Health and wellness boils down to being active – socially, mentally, emotionally and, yes, physically. At McGregor, we’re blessed to have a beautiful 32-acre campus with walking paths and gardens that are ideal for exercise and social engagement. It’s a natural setting for getting outdoors and being active, and we use it for recreational opportunities including a community garden, summer concerts and even beekeeping. Our Cleveland campus sits close to shopping areas like the Coventry boutique district, dining districts like Little Italy and downtown amenities including professional sports, music, theater and three major hospitals.

Anticipating a dramatic demographic shift with the nation’s elder care system facing a ‘Silver Tsunami’ –referring to the baby boomers, 76 million of them born in the U.S. between 1946 and the mid-1960’s and now reaching retirement age – McGregor’s landscape will soon change.

Breaking ground late spring for 90 new affordable assisted living units, McGregor will increase options for the growing senior population in greater Cleveland, anticipating its completion late summer/fall of 2019!

To enjoy a healthy, happy retirement you should also think about mental stimulation, social interaction and emotional well-being. All these together contribute to your overall quality of life.
