Volunteer Spotlight

Carolyn Pickens has been one of McGregor’s longest volunteers with 19 years of service.  Our Volunteers are our best treasures.  They give of their time and passion endlessly!

Before beginning her volunteer work, Pickens was an occupational therapist for 40 years. Since retirement, she has dedicated more than 1,000 hours of volunteer work at McGregor.

Pickens decided to volunteer at McGregor “to help with the residents, psychological, emotional, and spiritual needs”, which she has successfully done. Every Friday Pickens is leading Bible Study and spending meaningful one on one time with residents. But her work here does not stop at McGregor, Pickens is involved with many organizations in the community. She spends time volunteering at men’s and women’s shelters in the Cleveland area, at the Cleveland Food Bank, and helping other in our community with ministry work.

In 2009 Pickens was presented with the Presidents Volunteer Service Award for her time and commitment to volunteer work in our community. Pickens love for volunteering comes from the “rewarding experience” it brings her from helping others. Her advice for others who want to be involved and volunteer in the community is to “find or take time for others.”

Thank you, Carolyn, for your years of dedication and service!
