September 11: Remembering 9/11

Today we honor the victims and survivors of the September 11 attacks. As a designated National Day of Service and Remembrance, 9/11 acts as a powerful symbol of sacrifice, strength, and unity, recognizing the 2,997 lives lost, countless survivors, and all those whose lives were forever changed.

Each year, six moments of silence are observed to mark the series of attacks: the attacks on the North and South Towers, the collapse of each tower, the attack on the Pentagon, and the crash of Unted Airlines Flight 93 in Pennsylvania. In New York City, two bright columns of light illuminate the sky where the Twin Towers once rose. The foundation of each tower is marked by two reflecting pools surrounded by bronze panels engraved with the victims’ names. Together, these memorials stand as a somber and powerful tribute to their sacrifice.

In the days and months following 9/11, Americans stood united — offering support, demonstrating strength, and embodying the resilience that defines our nation. Today, we honor those lost, survivors, and heroes by giving back to our communities and carrying forward the compassion and unity that rose in the aftermath.
