Looking Back and Looking Forward

As our nation prepares to celebrate Independence Day, McGregor marked America’s 250th anniversary with an afternoon that honored the past while looking toward the future.

On July 1, residents, PACE participants, staff, families and guests gathered for a patriotic celebration filled with music. One of the day’s most meaningful moments was the creation of a McGregor time capsule; a collection of memories, messages and keepsakes contributed by residents and staff that will remain sealed for the next 100 years.

The time capsule serves as a snapshot of life at McGregor in 2026. Filled with personal reflections and meaningful times, it captures the voices, experiences and spirits of the people who make our community so special. While none of us will be here to see it opened, there’s something powerful about knowing that future generations will one day discover these pieces of history and gain a glimpse into life at McGregor during America’s 250th year

The celebration also featured a heartfelt performance of the National Anthem by McGregor PACE Activities Director, Karen Lisy, whose beautiful rendition set the tone for the afternoon. Guests then enjoyed a lively performance by the Cleveland Tops Swing Band whose patriotic favorites and classic songs had the audience clapping along and celebrating together.

Beyond the music and festivities, the day served as a reminder that history is made not only through monumental events, but also through the everyday moments we share with one another. At McGregor, celebrating our nation’s history means celebrating the people who continue to shape our own story each day.
