Bringing Joy Through Music at McGregor PACE

At McGregor PACE, music is more than entertainment—it’s a powerful way to bring people together, spark memories and brighten every day.

As the new Music Therapist at McGregor PACE, John Pearson is doing just that. Traveling to PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly) centers throughout Cuyahoga, Lorain, and Summit counties, Pearson fills each room with energy, laughter, and song. Guitar in hand, he encourages participants to sing along while passing out maracas, hand drums, and rhythm sticks so everyone can join in the music-making. The smiles, laughter and enthusiastic participation say it all.

Pearson’s passion extends beyond performing. He also loves teaching others to play music, helping participants rekindle and discover their musical talents.

One of his students, John Head, credits Pearson’s patience, encouragement and enthusiasm for inspiring him to keep learning.

“He’s an inspiration,” Head says. “I want to keep getting better and be good enough to play the music of my favorite group—Earth, Wind & Fire—in a gig someday.”

During one recent session, Pearson led participants in singing “Ain’t Nobody Crying.” Looking around the room, the song couldn’t have been more fitting. Participants sang along, tapped their feet, clapped to the rhythm, and shared smiles with one another. There wasn’t a tear in sight—only music, friendship and joy.

At McGregor PACE, these moments are part of everyday life. Music therapy helps participants stay engaged, build confidence, connect with others and simply enjoy the moment.
