From Boom to Buzz; The Rise of Drones

For generations, fireworks have been a highlight of summer celebrations. Most popular around the Fourth of July and Labor Day Holidays, the night sky lights up with bright colors from every direction, bringing communities together in celebration. Today, a new tradition is taking flight: drone light shows.

Using hundreds or even thousands of synchronized drones, equipped with LED lights, these displays create breathtaking animations and designs across the sky. They’re also much quieter, offering a more peaceful experience for veterans living with PTSD, pets startled by loud explosions, and young children with sensitive ears. Drone shows are also a safer alternative and eliminate the smoke left behind by traditional fireworks.

As impressive as they are, there is something bittersweet about their rise.

For many people, fireworks are more than a show; they’re a tradition. The big boom that echoes through the streets, the hazy air, and the anticipation of the next burst of color evoke memories. While drone shows are exquisite and beautiful, they don’t quite replace that feeling of nostalgia.

Technology will never stop evolving, and while changes can be hard to accept, it’s important to recognize that the magic isn’t what appears in the sky, but shared memories and time together with those you love.
