McGregor is proud to celebrate and recognize Women’s History Month. Women’s History Month started as International Women’s Day in March 1909. In 1978, the Sonoma California school district developed Women’s History Week (around the week of March 8th). Over the next year, other school districts, communities, and organizations had their own Women’s History Week celebrations. From these events came calls for a National Women’s History Week. This was federally recognized in 1980 by President Jimmy Carter. March features International Women’s Day on March 8, which is observed in the U.S. and other countries including the U.K. and Australia.
Each year Women’s History Month has a theme developed by the National Women’s History Project. This year’s theme is “Moving Forward Together! Women Educating & Inspiring Generations“. This theme aims to recognize women who have dedicated their lives to education, mentorship, and leadership.
