More Than Exercise: How Movement Becomes Medicine

When most people think about treating Parkinson’s disease, medication often comes to mind first. But during a recent visit to InMotion, a Cleveland nonprofit dedicated to helping people with Parkinson’s disease feel better every day, one message stood out: movement is medicine.

Through evidence-based exercise programs like boxing, yoga, cycling, dance, strength training, and fall prevention, InMotion empowers individuals to improve balance, mobility, and confidence. These aren’t simply fitness classes—they’re designed specifically to address the unique challenges of living with Parkinson’s.

Research continues to show that regular physical activity can help manage symptoms, improve quality of life, and support greater independence. At InMotion, these benefits are paired with encouragement, education, and a welcoming community that motivates participants to keep moving.

Exercise may not cure Parkinson’s disease, but organizations like InMotion demonstrate that movement can be a powerful tool in helping people live fuller, more active lives.
