This week at McGregor, staff were greeted with a nostalgic candy basket filled with childhood favorites and simple instructions: Before you grab a treat, leave us a memory!

The responses quickly became much more than the candy. Staff shared stories about stops at the corner store, chasing squirrels and family-oriented memories that stayed with them over the years. Here was one of our favorites:
“I am a candyholic. My memory is not from my childhood but as an adult. I am a former teacher. I would take my students to Severance Hall with a purse filled with candy. I needed it to stay awake. I always tried to sneak some in my mouth, but got caught a number of times over the years. LOL”
Moments like these may seem small, but they help build connection and community. Nostalgia has a unique way of bringing people together, encouraging conversation and reminding us of shared experiences across generations.
And of course, it also sparked an important debate: which childhood candy is truly the best?
