Growing a Diverse Workforce

Growing a Diverse Workforce

How McGregor Is Creating Opportunities for Health Care Workers

Participate in Our Earn and Learn Program for STNAs

Health care providers across the country share two common goals at the moment:

1. The first goal is to build on the current momentum around growing a diverse workforce—we must foster an inclusive culture in the workplace to best serve our employees and our patients.

2. The second goal is to protect our current employees’ health and well-being, as well as retain them as valued team members. Retention of health care workers continues to be a critical issue among senior care organizations.

Building a Strong and Diverse Team

McGregor is wholly committed to recruiting and retaining a diverse workforce. We recognize the recruiting challenges facing our industry as more long-time health care workers are retiring at a rapidly increasing rate and understand that we must look for new, innovative ways of recruiting employees. One example of this is our Earn and Learn program for State Tested Nursing Assistants (STNAs) through Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) and St. Martin de Porres high school.

Through this popular program, participants can work as an STNA in training and receive $10 per hour. Their education and training combine active caregiving and instructional lessons throughout the day, helping them gain the STNA certification through on-the-job work. The first STNA examination fee is paid for by McGregor and, once the participant graduates with their STNA certification, they receive a pay raise to $15 per hour. The program does require participants to work for McGregor as an STNA for one year.

Keeping Our Employees Safe

One of the best ways that senior care organizations like McGregor can protect our employees is to advocate for them to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. We believe the vaccine is our best line of defense against COVID-19 and a way for our employees to protect themselves as well as their colleagues, patients, and families. But we know that providing for our employees means also caring for their social, mental, and emotional health. From offering flexible schedules to keeping a close watch for signs of burnout or compassion fatigue, McGregor is committed to caring for each team member’s complete well-being. We value our current employees and aim to keep them happy, safe, and thriving in their roles at McGregor.
