Going for a daily walk is a simple pleasure in life that has many health benefits one may not consider. Not only is it something to kill time, but walking is also healthy for our bodies.
Walking is especially beneficial to older adults as their bodies start to change. Taking a walk strengthens muscles and reduces the risk of osteoporosis. Walking also improves heart health and decreases risks of strokes, heart disease, and high blood pressure.
Taking a walk everyday can boost mental health. It reduces the risk of depression and anxiety by calming our nervous system. Going on a walk is a simple yet effective way to improve your balance, which is an important factor in aging. Having strong balance and coordination reduces the chance of falling.

Walking outside is the perfect opportunity to take in some fresh air, feel the breeze, and smell flowers. It can also spark human connections and conversation. Do not hesitate to greet someone you run into. A simple hello and smile could make their day. Walking on a path, in the woods, or by the water are all ways to take in nature and improve your health. There is always a place to walk outside in our beautiful, vast environment of Northeastern Ohio.
With the beautiful landscape of the McGregor Campus, there are plenty of places to walk, rest and enjoy!
