Today’s seniors have witnessed incredible technological change. They’ve used rotary phones, rewound cassette tapes with a pencil and mastered not only one, but three different remote controls to watch their favorite shows. Now, many are confidently tapping and swiping their way through smartphones and tablets.
Technology isn’t just for the younger generations. More and more seniors are embracing tablets to order groceries, attend virtual book clubs, manage appointments, and video chat with family and friends around the world. Social media has become another doorway, one that keeps them connected to grandchildren’s milestones, community news, lifelong friends, and the world around them.

Stepping into the digital world is an adventure and like any adventure, it’s best taken with preparation. Staying safe online is key to enjoying all the benefits technology has to offer.
Consider keeping a small notebook labeled “Tech Safety Tips” with helpful reminders such as:
· Use long, unique passwords and consider a password manager to keep track of them.
· Turn on two-factor authentication whenever possible.· Avoid clicking on suspicious links or unexpected attachments.
· Never share personal information with unknown callers, emails, or text messages.
· Keep devices updated to ensure the latest security protection.
· Review privacy settings regularly.
· When in doubt, ask someone you trust.
And, to make technology less intimidating and more fun, create a weekly or monthly “Digital Tea Time.” Gather around the kitchen table with your children or grandchildren. Put out cookies, pour some tea and bring a list of tech questions you’ve been saving. Let your family show you a new app, adjust your privacy settings or explain the latest features on your phone.
Technology doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. With curiosity, caution, and a little help from loved ones, seniors can confidently explore the digital world and enjoy every click along the way.
